The 42nd Olcott Polar Bear Day Swim for Sight was held Sunday, March 6, 2011 in Olcott Beach, N.Y. Overnight snow and a raw North wind greeted the Olcott Lions Club as they set up for the event, but they managed to have everything ready as the crowd began to arrive to tailgate and eat before the swim. The weather held the crowd and number of swimmers down from years past, but 744 swimmers each raised more money than in the past, still raising some $15,000 for the Lions Club even with fewer bodies to do it. My hat's off to Bill Clark and his crew from the Olcott and other area Lions Clubs. With a crowd this large, everything runs so smoothly and it looks easy, a job well done!
